We have been eagerly awaiting updates regarding the advance information that students will receive for the Summer 2022 exam series. We have previously been critical of the long delays to the process, which we feel has unnecessarily placed additional stress on students. However, we are glad that the information has finally been released.
Having looked through the information provided by the different boards, it is clear that it will be most useful in the immediate run-up to the examinations, as students can focus their attention on what they'll be assessed on in the individual papers. We believe that is is still important for students to be taught the whole syllabus, for the following reasons:
- Many of the topics are interlinked and understanding the fundamental skills is crucial to having the confidence to approach all questions.
- Some students will be moving forward to study A-Levels/IB in the subjects and do not want to have gaps in their knowledge.
- Some students may end up sitting the examinations in a different series, either due to illness, choice, or as they are seeking a higher grade, and this advance information will no longer be relevant.
